T O P I C R E V I E WNickiGi was riding with a family friend to take my moms bf back home to get some things, and i saw a hitchhiker on the side of the road, then i was torn between two emotoins - a want to do the right thing and fear for my life for not knowing who it is or if he's capable of causing us harmso if it were up to me i wouldnt know which of my gut feelings to trustwhat would you do?------------------What happens on Venus stays on Venus-NasaAmi AnneI would not unless I got a super strong voice inside that told me to. The voice would have to over ride reason cuz reason would say NO lol------------------Throw away your books and listen to your heart.Listen the closest when it hurts the most. Adult hitchickers would realize that and not fret about a young lady passing them by. ------------------~The Earth Laughs In Flowers~... EmersonScorp31Never!!PlutoSquaredThe one encouraging you to protect your life is the right one, in my opinion.RandallI don't always pick someone up, but I have done it quite a bit in the past. It has always worked out well for me (great conversation, and I get to help someone). But I would never do it with another person in the car with me...well, almost never...me and my brother picked up a couple who had car trouble one time, and my gf at the time and I once took a homeless man to dinner who was at a McDonald's intersection with a sign asking for food (we drove him across town to a nice restaurant). I am always protected from harm, but I would never want to put anyone else at risk. I've also been a hitchhiker myself before. That is the only real time I had any trouble, when I was the one hitching a ride. One time, the guy who picked me up had stolen the car! Ah, good times, good times. (NOT!) RMChexNope, not a chance.I wish I could help people, but I wouldn't take the risk with my life - not so much because I care about me, but I would hate to think of my son orphaned because I was trying to help a stranger. Also, it would probably cross my mind that the hitchhiker might be someone who has done something terrible and actually doesn't deserve help that level of help from me.So, in a nutshell, nope, no way, no how. No.Rachel x------------------Where possible, give people a piece of your heart, not a piece of your mind.Alma SunNo, I'm too cautious. There's people I've known for years that I don't even trust, no way I can trust my life with a complete stranger. ------------------"Lock up your libraries if you like, but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind." — Virginia WoolfDeei did once a long time ago. it was an old man with younger women in her 20's and a child.. it turned out they were walking to a church who had raised donations for them to get a car.I wouldn't pick up anyone these days. The world has changed to muchBetty BoopIf she was female - seemed normal/reasonable, well dressed and had ID on her - I'd pick her up. But I'd message or call a friend (in front of her) - telling them that I just picked her up - what she looks like and who she is... and where we are going. I would only do this in an area that is not too remote - and that I am familiar with.If the hitchhiker was male.... I would only consider picking him up - If I had other friends with me. Even then, I think I'd find ways to test him and search his bags. LOL I guess getting a lift with me is like being of Arabic origin and trying to get on a plane. ---But if I was on my own... there is no way I would pick up a man I do not know - in my car.I meet enough psychopaths when I walk my dog. One of them hit me. Somehow I don't think a woman would've done something so stupid. Too much testosterone.. PS. If this person seemed hurt, distressed, extremely tired, sick etc... I would call an ambulance and park near them to keep an eye out (but I wouldn't interact).
so if it were up to me i wouldnt know which of my gut feelings to trust
what would you do?
